Another early morning.
We had breakfast at the hotel then took the tram back to Centraal Station, then the train to the airport to pick up our rental car. From there we drove to Duesseldorf, Germany. I expected there would be some sort of border crossing when we got to Germany but there wasn't. It was simply a sign on the highway saying something to the effect of "Welcome to Germany." Not what I expected.
We checked in the Holiday Inn Express Duesseldorf City and parked our car in the tiniest tightest parking garage ever - like we had to pull the side view mirrors in to make the turns.
I got the courtside room as I requested, not for the view but because I had heard these rooms were quieter than those fronting the street. We went looking for food after that.
There are a surprising number of Italian restaurant, both in the Netherlands and in Germany. There seemed to be a pizzaria on every corner. We ended up at a little street side restaurant across the street from the hotel called Su Nuraghe. It was excellent! We stuffed ourselves full of pasta then rolled ourselves back to our room. The main reason we had come to Duesseldorf was to check out the Kirmes Jahrmarkt Volksfest Rummel or "The Biggest Fun Fair on the Rhine." There was also a shooting contest there that my husband wanted to see. Our intention had been to go there after lunch, however, after lunch we needed naps.
We finally got moving again around 7 pm. We bought 24 hour tram passes for 2 for 10,50 Euros and took the tram to the Alstadt neighborhood. We could have taken it all the way across the Rhine and gotten off at the Fair but the hotel staff had recommended we get off here if we wanted to take the ferry across the river. The Fair itself is free. The ferry ride costed 3,50 Euros per person.

We finished out the night by riding the ferris wheel, then took the tram back. Another late night. I think we stayed up until 2 am.
